Four wheeled ATV's

Unlike the three wheeled ATV segment where Honda made its mark, the four wheeled segment was dominated by Suzuki. The company sold its first four wheeled ATV in 1982 called QuadRunner LT125. It was designed as a recreational ATV for beginners. The first high performance four wheeled ATV was introduced in the market in 1985. It was called the Suzuki LT250R Quadracer. While there were changes that were made in the machine the essential features of the model were a long travel suspension, a 2 stroke motor that was liquid cooled and a 5 speed transmission that was manual. This was not a machine that was designed for beginners but required the driver to have some level of experience and skill with ATV's.

Even though Suzuki was the first manufacturer to be in the game for four wheelers, Honda responded with this change by introducing the FourTrax TRX250R. This is one machine that has not been copied so far and it remains one of the best that you can acquire. There is also the Kawasaki Tecate-4 250 that was launched later. Today we have other players like Yamaha in the foray too.

Some of the other four wheeled ATV's in the market that were introduced later included Suzuki's Quadracer (also called Quadzilla), Honda's FourTrax TRX350 4x4 and more. The models are divided into utility ATV's and sports ATV's. While the sports models are lighter and smaller, the utility ATV's are designed to carry higher levels of weight and pull at trolleys too.
